UMass Dartmouth Athletics Mobile App: "CorsairCrew"
For my senior year capstone project I decided to design the user experience and user interface for a UMass Dartmouth Athletics smart phone application. This project combined a lot of my interests and talents very well which is why I decided to work on this as my final project in university.
I began by researching UMass Dartmouth's brand guideline where I was able to find the typefaces they use in all of their digital and print media. I often referred to the brand guideline so that my application would fit right into the university's system.
Factoria is used for all subheadings and paragraph headline content across print and web applications.
Prohibition is used for short display headlines to quickly grab attention across print and web applications.
Soleil is used for all audiences to display body and paragraph content across print and web applications.
While designing the app I kept in mind the audience who would be using it. Doing this I was able to include features that would make players, parents of players, students, or prospective players lives easier.
I included an upcoming events feature so parents would be able to find out their child is playing with ease. The livestream functionality was created so family or friends who can't make it to the game can still watch right from their phone. High school or college students who are looking to join an athletic team can find the "Recruit Me" feature in the app to get in touch with a coach. There are plenty of other features inside this app that will make life easier for the target audience.
I designed banner graphics for each of the three teams included in the app prototype. This allowed me to combine my passion and ability in sports designing with the rest of my project. I believe that having dynamic graphics, unique for each team, is a really great detail.
